Guide To Fix a Leaky Faucet

The most common reasons for leaky faucets are – worn out of gasket, a loose O ring, corrosion in the valve seat. All these problems can be fixed using the basic faucet repair kits. However, your faucet age might be one of the reasons for the faucet leakage.
Even an amateur person can do it by following the steps below:
- Close the tap and shut off the water
No matter if your kitchen or bathroom has a single hole, single lever, or double handle faucet, shut off the water supply before starting repairs.
Twist the valve under your sink. If there are not individual shutoff valves under the sink, shut off the main water supply of your house. Turn on the brushed gold kitchen faucet and let the remaining water fall out in the sink.
- Remove the Handle
The removal of the faucet handle depends on the faucet type. And it takes effort to remove the handle of the leaky faucet.
- If there is a screw behind the faucet handle, insert a hex key into the screw and turn it.
- If the black stainless-steel faucet has a top screw, use a flat screwdriver to remove it. After this, use a head screwdriver to loosen the screw underneath the cover.
- Pull out the free handle.
- Remove the Cartridge
The faucet cartridge is mostly found in two-handled bathroom and kitchen faucets. Cartridge or stem is responsible for the flow of hot and cold water.
- Take a wrench, lose the packing nut of the handle assembly, remove and keep it aside.
- Gently pull out the cartridge.
- Install New Cartridge
Now if the cartridge is the reason for dripping bathroom vanity faucets, replace the cartridge. The cartridge is available in several shapes and sizes. The best way to find the most suitable cartridge for your faucet is the faucet's manufacturer's name and the faucet's model number. If you cannot find the number or name, take the old cartridge to the market and the seller will give you the suitable cartridge.
- Dry the area around the handle.
- Check the O rings around the housing. Put new ones, if the old ones are damaged.
- Now, install the new cartridge.
- Reattach the single hole kitchen Faucet Handle
After installing the cartridge now reattach the faucet handle. Turn your water line and remove all the debris, or dust from, the sink.
Run both hot and cold water for a few minutes to check whether your aerator is not clogged. If yes, remove it with a new aerator.
